HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY to FOSTER'S FLOWERS

Foster's Flowers in McAlester, OK on 02/14/2004. Click on the picture to read the article.

The members of RAMP contacted Foster's owner Penny S. for a year trying to get past all the promises for accessibility. After being told next month for 12 months straight, the members of RAMP (pictured) joined together to protest for accessibility. Several people entering the flower shop asked her to make it accessible. Within two days forms were setup and pouring began. RAMP has since given Penny a Certificate of Commendation for her efforts to become accessible. Soon after this picture was taken it got much colder and started snowing, but we stood strong until the shop closed for the day. Click (HERE) to see Before and After Pictures of Foster's Flowers

Stephan Strickland and John Wilkinson arrived infront of Harbor Mountain Coffee House at 8:30am on July 16th, 2004 to gain support for access to the coffee shop. The owner of Harbor Mountain has promised the members of RAMP and other people in the area who use wheelchairs, he would make the coffee shop accessible next month. One year and 2 months later, members of RAMP decided asking him kindly in person, by phone and through the Department of Justice was just not good enough. During the protest which lasted from 8:30am till 1:00pm, 45 to 50% of the passerbys honked to support our mission. Around 10:00am Terry Johnson and Herb Shaw arrived to lend us a hand holding up all the protest signs. Two women from Texas passed by and stopped. They carried 4 bottles of cold water over to us. They didn't know any of us, nor were they from McAlester, but they were so impressed by our mission they gave us water for no reason. We were so impressed by their unselfish act. It really gave us the needed boost to hold our ground. A great many thanks to the Citizens of McAlester who Honked their support, the two women who gave us water, the girl from Free's Campagin Headquarters, and Pepsi Cola for the long blast of air horns when they went past us.
